On this page are photos of some repairs we
have performed prior to the restoration or rejuvenation. But please note that we
are not in the business of steering wheel repairs per se.
All of our repairs, prior to plasticising, are carried
out by using a high grade epoxy compound, with high tensile strength, this is
used in structural breaks.
All breaks and separations are "dovetailed" to allow
the compound
an interlocking effect, thereby giving repairs the best possible chance of enduring
stability.
When the separations are particularly large and distorted, pins
are inserted to give extra strength to the area.
Fine grade filler is used in any remaining surface
imperfections.
Durable plastic coating is hand formed progressively, using age
old technique to desired shape, grip and thickness and after curing is surface
sanded prior to colouring or alternatively pearl plasticisied in chosen colour.
Below are some very notable examples of how
we have handled jobs that required total reconstruction, to other jobs that
required minor fixing.
Wheels rims are reformed, on original or replacement frame by
way of unique, totally handcrafted applications. Creating as near as possible,
originality in shape and form or customised as desired. In
the case of original rim attachment to "banjo" spokes having been
unstable, causing cracking of the wheel, or in the case of our need to replace
an original rim for a rim reduction we have engineered a far superior method of
attaching spokes to rim. Please note that due to the
nature of our plastic coating some fine patterns or indentations as originally
in the steering wheel will no longer be visible, after it has been
restored, this is due to the fact that the plastic is 0.5ml to 1ml
in thickness. With this in mind, if applicable, allowance is always made for the
re fitting of the horn ring, this is why it is important to always include the
horn ring assembly when sending your steering wheel to us.

1930's Lagonda steering wheel. Wheel was sent to us from the Aston martin work
shop in Durham UK, on arrival found it to be totally un serviceable. We
set about constructing a new steering wheel from scratch as shown.
1936 Buick steering wheel sent from Nevada USA . Complete re build due to
fractured spokes. Centre horn button was also re enameled.
1939 Aston Martin steering wheel. An attempt had been made to repair the spoke
previously with pop rivets before being sent to us from Singapore.
Given
the metal that had been removed previously, the damaged
spoke was re secured with high tensile bolts, supported by a high tensile pin,
anchored into the alloy hub. Wheel then hand coated in
an original type black plastic, coming up slightly higher than was originally at
hub, to cover original repairs.
1950 Riley steering wheel. Rebuilt on existing frame, final marbled plasticised
finish as close to original as possible.
Sunbeam Talbot steering wheel. Complete rebuild/ re rim. Hand
applied placticised finish, followed by final colour coat .

1948 Bedford truck steering wheel. Before photos as presented to us via email,
for a quote. Steering wheel had extensive repairs including construction of new
center cap, rim also thickened to original grip. Final plasticised finish in a
custom blue ( "midnight blue") marble.
Not repairs as such. Total construction of new steering wheel for a boat.

Austin
Healey steering wheel with typical detachment of spokes. Fully rebuilt using superior technique and plasticised in original type black plastic.
Sunbeam Alpine steering wheel, as presented to us, from New Zealand. Total
rebuild using superior attachment method to spokes. Final plasticised finish in a
subtle chocolate marble.
1938 Buick Special steering wheel, as sent to us from Connecticut USA. Wheel dismantled
to allow for re chroming of the hub while still retaining the polished metal finish of
the spokes. steering wheel re-assembled using superior attachment of spokes to
rim.
Rim re - formed by hand on original frame and after
final plastic coating, coloured as matched to "repro" gear knob
provided.
1. MGB steering wheel with typical fracture. 2. Design weakness causing
problem. 3. re designed press fit mounting blocks. 4. fitted and secured to
frame. 5. re built with high tensile epoxy. 6. totally plasticised in original
type black plastic. (see wheel fitted on "restorations classic " page)
